Pratul K. Ajmera received his B.Tech (Hons.) degree in electronics and electrical communication engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 1968. He obtained MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC in 1971 and 1975 respectively. His MS research was in the area of rf sputtered dielectric films with Dr. Michael A. Littlejohn and his doctoral research was in the area of ion-implanted infrared detector diode arrays with Dr. John R. Hauser.
Since 1992, he is a professor of electrical & computer engineering at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. He has been the Coordinator of the Solid State Laboratory of the electrical & computer engineering department since its inception in 1984 at LSU. He has also been the coordinator of the electronics area within the department since 1983. His previous academic experience includes: associate professor of electrical & computer engineering (1982-1993) at LSU, Baton Rouge and assistant professor of electrical engineering (1976-1982) at University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. Prior to that he briefly worked as a research engineer at Research Triangle Institute, NC and as a research associate at NC State University in 1975.
He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of SPIE, MRS, Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu and Phi Kappa Phi. In 1998, he was named the McDermott International Professor of electrical & computer engineering. He has published 36 refereed technical articles and 40 conference papers. In addition he has given several technical talks and presentations. He has received several research and equipment grants from federal and state funding agencies. He has been a consultant to a variety of industries and acts as a reviewer for technical journals and book publishers. He was actively involved in the conception, planning and startup of the Center for Advanced Microstructure and devices (CAMD) at LSU.
