The photochemical vapor deposition reactor uses ultraviolet light low-pressure vacuum chamber to produce a gas-phase chemical reaction to yield semiconductor thin films. The use of ultraviolet light as an energy source permits this chemical reaction to take place at temperatures as low as 250ºC compared with much higher temperatures (>400ºC) used in conventional chemical vapor deposition systems.
